It's been a while for me too, but my nostalgia for 2nd gen is so strong that I find myself remembering more of it than I thought I would. People tell me I have a problem because of that...

Don't have to worry about Windows 8, it will destroy itself. I just hope OEMs take it as a cue to realize that there is more than one operating system in this world.

I'm sure they'd be a lot more willing to do it if Linux actually supported DirectX. Of course, there's a very obvious reason why it doesn't. Hopefully the Steam Box will significantly expand the Linux gaming library.

But Linux has SDL which supplies almost everything that DirectX does. In fact, SDL was made in order to port DirectX games to Linux (citation needed).
