I think confusion(status) hasn't ever worked properly. It is just not properly implemented yet. And confusion still goes away in gen 5. And poison stays but just doesn't give damage between battles...

i'm an oldie, so some of the most recent changes in game mechanics, (specifically after gen 4) i have no idea of.
i've always, and probably will always, have a fondness to the game mechanics of GSC with a little mix of 3rd gen. specifically EV's from 3rd gen

it should be forcing it to fainted and bringing up the party screen, it was still getting xp when i got that going but i told nils to stick a check in the xp gain battle step to see if the target is not fainted. like i said i cant see the version of the code responsible for this stuff right now so i cant tell you whats done and whats not. our source control is weird.explosion faints, but not really.
it brings the victims (player's pokemon) hp to 0, but the pokemon stays alive and well and even receives EXP for the battle
