cool we might want to make a quest form. cause the other planets would be more of a quest at first that unlocks them.I'm thinking it would require you to help the guy with his research on dark energy which existed in every area but it would be much easier to research in the shadow world or get materials that can reproduce it easier from the shadow world. Then the guy makes a warp drive engine using it. much like how nasa is trying to develop our warp drive using dark energy. XD
heres some ideas on how it could work

mods could work in several ways, as new campaigns that are a whole new set of maps with possibly new pokemon etc that have their own 'game type' that can't trade/battle/coop with players of the base game. these are basically pokemon 3d 'rom hacks'.

as a small collection of maps you can load into from the main game (these would probably need to be approved case by case to see if they can be playable on peoples normal characters without breaking the game). these mods could have different level ranges so they are alternate quests you can go on at various points in the game. these mods would not have new pokemon and would have to not be overgenerous with items etc

and finally as small things like letting people swap sprites clientside etc, kind of like your typical bethesda RPG game cosmetic mod. funny moustaches on all the trainers, play as trainer red, metal suit for your mewtwo. other players you coop'd with would just see the defaults unless they had mods.

the key thing with mod support is keeping them separate and safe, while ensuring that your own files don't get tampered with for cheating etc.

For now, without this kind of support I reckon you could do mod loading via save games, you package a save with your mod and players can change the name and skin (make it part of the installation process if you wanna be fancy) and if they load the save it'd load them into your entry map, so you don't have to mess with the official maps at all, like i did with my route 69 test map

I was thinking about the save system and IMO a good way to deter cheating would be to encrypt the save files for the base game, rom hack style mods could just use unencrypted ones.

If there were to be some kind of community pokemon added it'd all have to be approved by nilllzz or it'd be a huge mess. realistically you'd do it as one of those rom hack style mods, like one of those community supermods like minecraft has where you get everyone who is doing new pokemon to work together to put it into a common dex that their own maps depend on. you could do whatever you wanted with no need for approval etc

its certainly something i'd like to see, because really with a few little changes to the systems (honestly, most of the things i'd like to see are almost possible already) that sort of thing could be supported, without breaking the game, or needing a lot of effort on nilllzz' part, and could attract people to the game

unfortunately we can't do anything with them, the pokemoncreator just simplifies the process of making a new class for each pokemon, plugging in all the stats. the reason i'm making these is so nilllzz can use them to make all the classes he needs, which would speed up putting placeholder pokemon in (all the moves will need to be done so basically all these pokemon will have overgrowth and tackle/growl)

basically, if nilllzz accepts my offer of help i'd make a new pokemon class that has all the functionality needed to be any pokemon, and have it load data from files (.mon files maybe? ;)) so it knows what sort of pokemon it is and what sprites to use etc. in that case i'd make something to parse the files im making for the values i put in and spit it out in whatever the new format is and we got like, 5x more pokemon

if he doesn't accept then at least he can use them all.I figure its a good use of my time either way :)

Well it seems like you can use the xna formatter for making the animations...at least you would think

oh, it'd be easy to compile into xnbs, its just the pokemon sprite sheets are made by taking each frame of an animated gif and putting them in the correct spots on the sprite sheet, all of this was automated by nilllzz because there's like over 450 pokemon now, doing the sheets by hand would take way too long lol. i hope he uploads his tool for that or i gotta write my own D: nilllzz hasnt posted in here for 2 days, probably busy with the trainers
like imagine ripping every frame of these per hand, for a single pokemon

holy crap he got trainer battles working and the update out on time, sick.

now we need hell of pokemon added so the trainers can be done up with the right pokemon (my sketeton source files include bellsprout! we need bellsprout for sprout tower so bad lol also he's in the routes. bellsprout and vine whip would fill out like every trainer in sprout tower, the other pokemon that show up are like 2 hoothoots in the trainers and at night you can catch ghastly on floor 2 as a random wild pokemon. gastly is in my vb files but not hoothoot, yet. expect that like, tomorrow or the day after)

the new ladders are a really nice touch nilllzz. i was gunna do something like that but making the holes for them etc was gunna be a PITA and something that could be done later. your ladders look better than mine where gunna look at least lol. its really nice with the actual music. when i was mapping it i had the area open in a NDS emulator in soulsilver so i got the music but i just couldnt get it compiled to work ingame myself :(

oh neat you're using actual item icons instead of just a pokeball for everything
