Hello everyone, this will be my first post here and i'm glad to be here.

I have searched the threads in this forum and didn't find anything that seemed to relate to my problem, so here goes.

So first off, some basic specs:

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Intel CoreI5 3570K
Ati Radeon HD 5770

I am not entirely sure which frame-rates the game runs at, but I'm assuming it is supposed to run at 50 or 60 fps. if this is correct, then i have a problem with my fps. My fps seems to be running at a stable 41-42 fps, but while this is certainly not bad, I just don't understand why i cannot max the fps. While my gfx card isn't the strongest card currently available, it is certainly above decent and should be complete overkill for something like this. I have tried adjusting the different gfx settings to the lowest values possible, but it doesn't seem to change the fps in any way, and it shouldn't make a difference with the card I have anyway.

Could someone please shed some light on what is going on here?

im on a core 2 duo cpu with 4 gig of old ass ram but i got a decent gpu (gtx 460 from about a year or so ago) and its basically all 60 all the time, except for the occassional dip. i think it gets GPU locked more than CPU locked. its a whole new engine so we still have ways to go with optimization

this week theres a new feature that stitches maps together, with it on you can be looking at like 3 maps at once, and it really demolishes your FPS if it is snowing and you got that cranked up. i'd say easiest fps gains can be made turning that to 0, where it disables the offset maps completely.

Thanks for the reply, i'm going to play the game now, so ill try disabling the offset map completely (so far i have it cranked up at max). But even so, I know I had the fps problem before this update was introduced, and I just don't understand how my gfx card doesnt seem to be enough for this game.

To be honest, originally the fps didn't really bug me that much, but with the introduction of the new update, which fixes the battle intro loop on fullscreen (something that i thought was intended and not a bug), the battle intro/transission only plays the intro music once, and this is extremely annoying, because with the lower fps, the music will now finish before the transission does, so each time i start a battle, there is a second where the screen will be completely dark (or white, depending on the transission) and without the music, it looks as if the game crashes:/. Even though it doesn't crash, this is still really tedious-.- I really wish Nillz hadn't fixed that, because it wasn't a bug to me XD.

on max it is updating all maps in real time with everything enabled, i turned it down to 25 myself, but you can probably have it somewhere in the middle, if you can't get it to do stable frames at all disabling it will probably help though

Well i think i have yet to see the effect of a maxed up offset while snowing, but i just tried turning everything down to minimum, it doens't make a damn difference. My fps is stable enough, it's just that I can't get more than 42-45ish, I can live with that, it's just that annoying 1 second during the battle transissions where it looks as if the game crashes because of the low fps and that bug fix. But thanks anyway, if that offset map option is that demanding, then I might play around with it a for a bit and see what happens.

also, really, dont worry about your graphics card. new engines take time to run really well.i hope that doesnt sound like a cop out :x the thing is game engines are really complex beasts, sometimes fps gains are found in the weirdest places, and its only through time that you find out when the game runs like crap, once you know that you're only at step 1

there's been steps taken as recently as last week. nilllzz redid how trees worked and got big fps gains out of it. there's a lot of trees on a map and it turned out 1 tiny thing made it a liiittle bit slower, then you multiply that slowing by every tree

but yeah, dont worry about it. let us know if theres a place or activity that wrecks your fps, though. it helps. sometimes in really unexpected ways

sad to hear that. nilllzz and i have it running at stable frame rates with debugger attached and everything. he tried making a huge map (like 10x bigger than anything we'd reasonably make) and made it load with offset loading, then turned it off and went back to 60 fps.

people say its not helping so i dont think its the offset mapping thats making it run slow for you.

your gpu and cpu are nice so i assume you got a load of ram in your rig, yeah? this is 32 bit so it cant address over 2 gig anyway but is there any chance you have like 1 gig of ram or something? very long shot but i thought i should ask anyway

its hard to compare nvidia and amd cards but how bigs the video memory on your GPU? mines got 1 gig on it, do you have 756 or w/e vram on yours? that could be a factor too

I understand, the game is great and I'm not going to let 1 annoying part ruin it. I'm looking forward to seeing the game expand. Again, thanks for your help dude:)

Edit: Yeah, i have 8gb of RAM, so that definately aint it.

we've found a problem with how much stuff we cache in memory too, which is stopping the pokedex from letting you scroll through all pokemon (it runs out of memory and crashes), so when we fix the underlying problems of that there may be some improvement in frame rates

i find it strange you say you have frame problems in battle, when i was experiencing fps issues with offset loading maxed and all loaded maps trying to snow at once, whenever i encountered a wild pokemon the moment it started doing the transition and playing the music it'd jump up to 60 fps and stay there

what about VRAM? my gtx 460 has 1 gig on it and bigger cache than the 756mb or w/e version of the card, more cuda cores as well. its still the mid range card of that series but its a really nice one. if yours has less vram that may explain why im getting hell of Works On My Machine problems with finding the fps issues some people have. if we're overwhelming overwise good gpus thats a problem haha.

I have 1 gig GDDR5 VRAM, so i wouldn't think thats it either XD
well bugger, i was hoping we could just work out some more ways to use less vram or something :( your bad FPS is a complete mystery to me, then. your CPU is better than mine and you have more system ram (i got 4 gig of ddr2 ram) and your gpu is as good and probably better than mine. :( :( :(

are you running it in full screen mode, and if so, what is your native res? mines 1680x1050 so if you got a sick monitor you'd probably running it higher than that in full screen.

also, you probably update drivers, but have you updated drivers? its using direct x 9 via XNA so im not sure how many driver problems would still exist for this sort of thing but it probably cant hurt

Yes i usually run the game in fullscreen mode, my monitors native resolution is 1920 x 1080P, so thats what its running at. BTW, i just noticed something strange, After i wrote back to you and looked at the paused game (in window mode), my max fps was 68 and the fps counter in the top right said 60 O.O. I just tried playing in window mode instead, the fps sometimes goes to 60 but then immediately drops to 42ish again....Bugger, I thought it had something to do with fullscreen mode-.-

Damnit, when in window mode, the fps litteraly jumps to sixty, stays there for a few seconds and then jumps down again and repeats that. I can see the difference in the game speed during battles now, this is ridicolous:/

Edit: Well if it can't be helped, it can't be helped, thanks for trying, seems like i can atleast RUN the game with 60 fps, just needs to figure out why it keeps dropping.
