I had forgotten that day how Houndour evolved. Instead of checking the Internet, I tried a stone (thinking it was the Fire Stone), because that did make some sense, as another fiery dog does the same thing.

Upon interaction with a fire stone, my Entei evolved into a magikarp. So yes, they certainly do evolve.
