chikorita owns, I guess it all depends on your level of skill with using pokemon that don't flourish in the beginning capture a piggy for sprout tower, or hoothoot
Grass Pokemon in general are all a matter of personal taste. You'll find yourself trying to make up for their weaknesses instead of using them for their strengths, if at all.
pfft you have to be a loser to not use grass type often, their tanky too especially if you train on rock pokemon

Actually when pokemon gold/silver/crystal came, I always choose chikorita, and despite having that pokemon, back then somehow the game wasn't really necessary hard even when I choose it and it was hard to train during the early section, but it became a great pokemon by the time it evolved. Cyndaquil kindna but only if you haven't get it to evolve and face Whitney, I just have quilava flamewheel her miltank and it be down.

I dare say you can never play a pokemon game and not use a fire or water pokemon, and yet i've never beaten the elite four with a grass pokemn in my party. By the time you consider 5 type weaknesses and the fact that chikorita only learns 5 technical moves by the time it reaches level 50 your probably better off without it.

You should totally pick Chikorita, It is strong against some Kanto Gym leaders such as Brock, Misty and... lollololol by then the starter doesn't really matter at all, Chikorita is by far the worst choise of starter in ANY of pokemon games. The only reason you should pick Chikorita is if you want to play it almost like "hard mode" in the beginning.

Totodile is great for those who want to speed through the game as it's the starter used for speedrunning Gold, mainly because of its versatile moveset and yes, helps you against your rival because it learns ice type moves.

The game was OK but the new pokemon were well....boring

But once you beat the game(in my book it's beating the champion)the good pokemon do come back.

With each pokemon game that comes out, nintendo has a hard time of coming up with more and more pokemon, so yes some of them will be bland, etc. I see where your coming from though

Why you should pick totodile:

Totodile is a crocodile. The other two starters are a mouse and a thing
For fire type, use a growlithe until you get to goldenrod, then get a charmander from the trade center.
You dont even need grass type to have a good team
what is chicorita even supposed to be?

This question might sound random, but does any one think 5 gen was kinda bad?
Nope, as a player that has been around since pokemon Red/Blue, Black & White 2 are the games I've enjoyed the most since G/S/C, the only games that have been bad imo must've been Ruby/Sapphire (Not counting Emerald since I haven't played that)
