I am not a fan of the name "Fairy". It makes the image of it seem girly (not meant to be offensive, just a stereotype that has been set by society), and the thought that it is going to be effective against Dragon. Honestly though, my main issue is the name, "Fairy". It makes you think of Navi, as some others have stated, even though fairies were originally mischievous creatures, as some others have stated. I think that the name should be changed to "Light", or "Moon". Even "Magic" would have been a better choice I feel.
Hey! fairies can also be badass...

Yeah, but this image doesn't sit right with me...

I have to point out that just because Jigglypuff is a Fairy Type does not mean it will be able to take down a Garchomp/Salamence/Hydregion. You have to look at the stats as well. Garchomp's EQ easily OHKO's both Jigglypuff and Wigglytuff.

Azumaril on the other hand--assuming its also a Fairy Type like Marill--will pose a serious threat. Azumarill already hits like a truck thanks to a Huge Power-boosted Waterfall (more so in the rain). If we add a physical Fairy Type move to that repertoire then we will have a monster tank on our hands. If the rumors about Fire and Psychic Types resisting Fairy Type is true, Celebi will be the only thing that can resist a Water/Fairy attack combination. Sounds pretty scary to me.

Yeah wigglytuff's stats aren't...the greatest sadly. Azumarill however can be a trouble towards dragon types. lol

From what I've seen, light or moon are more accurate

Depends, really.
Faerie covers more things than just small little elven creatures with wings.
LOTR's genre is Faerie and that covers a lot of different mystical beings. Some say the Red Dragon from LOTR also started out as a Faerie and that is why Faeries are super-effective against dragons.

Fairies & Faeries are two pretty different beings. Fairies tends to be the good guys while Faeries are the bad guys. Thus, Faeries do cover more things than just small elven creatures which you said, but Fairies do not.

I'm talking about from what I've seen of the moves, if they did change the name, it'd be one of those.

Not exactly, actually faerie was used to cover both the good and bad spirits. They could be kind and helpful, like Tinkerbell, or misleading and cruel like Slender or Navi.

Well, I don't know why I got into the whole fairy conversation to begin with, I'm out of here.
