also for the longest time all i had was grey scale for the NPC's but i found that bulbapedia does have colored sprites which help alot.

then i saw what the colored sprites looked like....

ill show you how they compare to mine

here's my version:

here's the classic version:

which do you prefer?

also here's the link to the image straight from bulbapedia that shows that the classic version is legit:

I should not interfere but I wanted to let you know that the first one (the coloured one) is waaaaay better :D

i have in my posession the sprite configuration for your sprite.

i'm actually tempted to get it made right now and give it to you right now.

but theres a slight problem:
YOUR HAIR!

you see, the sprite configuration for the orginal games came with 6 positions that make up a sprite:
facing the screen
facing the back
facing the side (Left)
moving down
moving up
moving to the side(left)

usually 90% of the characters in the game are symmetrical through the middle, so to compensate for the missing right side of the sprite all one has to do is flip the left.

but you are special (yay special!)

you have 8.
that means i'll have to personally make the two right side positions for you

it's not a problem for me, just thought you should know that your a special type :p

I don't know if I said it, but i thought you were doing it exact.
But, that aside, due to my overwhelming Silver-loving childhood, I like Gamefreaks muuuch better.
But, that is a bias decision based on my love for nostalgia.
I think yours looks unnatural and gross :p

Once again, that aside, I will most likely be making the battle sprites for the Pokemon anyway.
So, if you want those when I'm done, just let me know ;)

if you truely desire.
we can do a grey scale retro?
that way, no colors just pure sprites in their spritey glory.

we can call it Retro Noir or something idk

however, its not like i can't just recolor the sprites to their original look so i can make a custom true true retro version

you know what. after thinking about it.

maybe i'll just make 3 separate packs. one with revamp colors

one with classic color

and one greyscale

Lol I was gonna do them with their actual color, and then just make a copy and greyscale those.

however i might consider doing them once i get done the NPCs

Hey all, Snoe here.

I posted a thread earlier asking for someone to create a Texture/Sprite overhaul of the game
so that it would look like the Original Gold and Silver as opposed to the HG SS graphics.

Originally I wanted just to have the Sprites, but then realized if there's going to be a retro it should be done all the way.

Thus, I gave birth to

THE RETRO GS TEXTURE/SPRITE PACK!
Right now I'm in the process of starting with the sprites building.

I am working off of this for reference:
EDIT: I HAVE FOUND A PROGRAM THAT TAKES THE SPRITES DIRECTLY FROM THE GAME!

Obviously as you can see, there is no color in this sprite map :/ so I'm in need of colored references for the sprites. I HAVE FOUND COLOR REFERENCES!

EDIT:
I am considering having three options to meet the desires of players:
-revamp color (what I'm working on)
-classic color(completely absolutely-fresh-from-the-rom color)
-RETRO retro (black, white, and grey)

the reasoning for this is that some nostalgiacs will want the sprites untampered whatsoever.
this means things such as green-shirted NPCs will also have green mouths and random green dots on them.

the REVAMP is the pack of choice, what i've done is taken the original color schemes and made them practical. glasses are white, beards are grey, mouths are red, etc.

I will not release the other two options until I'm done with the revamp first.

The second phase will be the texture pack which will change some(if any) of the design in the texture to better reflect the original game, Fortunately about 80% or more of the vanilla game actually uses the original G/S textures for the overworld so this will be more focused on the Sprites than the texture!

Any and all help is greatly welcome!

CHECK LIST:
-NPCs (in progress) ALMOST COMPLETE!
-GYM LEADERS/ ELITE FOUR (have references)
-KANTO GYM LEADERS (have references)
-OVERWORLD (have references)

EDIT!
CURRENTLY WORKING ON:

the program i use is officially an in-game sprite editor. its meant for making editing your ROMs on the computer.
it also happens to show me the sprites from the game which i use as a refernce to paint.

unless you plan on handmaking all the sprites yourself i wouldnt recommend it.

if your willing to put the hard work for it. ill give it to you

do you know that the sprites don't have to fit a 32x32 grid anymore?
you can make them as big(or as small) as you want :)
So you can have the sprites be the same size as in the GBC version
