EDIT: LINK TO THE BETA - http://pokemon3d.net/threads/2616/

Hey all, Snoe here.

I posted a thread earlier asking for someone to create a Texture/Sprite overhaul of the game
so that it would look like the Original Gold and Silver as opposed to the HG SS graphics.

Originally I wanted just to have the Sprites, but then realized if there's going to be a retro it should be done all the way.

Thus, I gave birth to

THE RETRO GS TEXTURE/SPRITE PACK!
Right now I'm in the process of starting with the sprites building.
I am working off of this for reference:
EDIT: I HAVE FOUND A PROGRAM THAT TAKES THE SPRITES DIRECTLY FROM THE GAME!
overworldcharacters.png
Obviously as you can see, there is no color in this sprite map :/ so I'm in need of colored references for the sprites. I HAVE FOUND COLOR REFERENCES!

EDIT:
I am considering having three options to meet the desires of players:
-revamp color (what I'm working on)
-classic color(completely absolutely-fresh-from-the-rom color)
-RETRO retro (black, white, and grey)

the reasoning for this is that some nostalgiacs will want the sprites untampered whatsoever.
this means things such as green-shirted NPCs will also have green mouths and random green dots on them.

the REVAMP is the pack of choice, what i've done is taken the original color schemes and made them practical. glasses are white, beards are grey, mouths are red, etc.

I will not release the other option until I'm done with the revamp first.

The second phase will be the texture pack which will change some(if any) of the design in the texture to better reflect the original game, Fortunately about 80% or more of the vanilla game actually uses the original G/S textures for the overworld so this will be more focused on the Sprites than the texture!

Any and all help is greatly welcome!

CHECK LIST:
-NPCs (in progress) COMPLETED!!!!!!
-GYM LEADERS/ ELITE FOUR (in progress) COMPLETED!!!!!!
-KANTO GYM LEADERS (in progress!)
-OVERWORLD (HAVE STARTED(partially) COMPLETED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EDIT!
CURRENTLY WORKING ON:
STARTING KANTO LEADERS!
Also have started on pokemon center as my first texture in phase 2! Pokecenter is complete(with room for improvement) pokemart is also in the same state. The texture pack phase of this pack actually won't take that long to do compared to the sprites! ALL TEXTURES THAT NEEDED TO BE REVAMPED ARE COMPLETED!

Lol that's quite a good idea, unfortunately I have no experience at all with creating sprites etc. so I won't be a big help. :-/
Anyway, good luck with it and I look forward to playing this texture pack. :)

Yay ^^
I wanna see myself in the first gen. style :p
if you like, i can give you a grey scale sprite and then show you the colored version(the one that will be implemented)
the awesomness of gen 1 and 2 is that most of the sprites just got color added to them

snoe, would you be interested in changing everything we can to Gen 2?
I was thinking of an idea for a "Old School" mode for Challenge Tower (link in signature)
But mine was more along the lines of Battle sprites, move sounds, and move animations.
As well as Pokemon Data, and all that other fun stuff.
Would you be interested in collaborating on this? I can also help with everything you have posted.
Also, your textures look....off somehow.

ive got an editor that's taken the sprites straight from the game.
what ive done is redrawn them exactly as they are. the colors are the only things that aren't 100% accurate.

the idea is that it's a revamp with a palette change.

i also have the sprites for the pokemon (back when pokemon were depicted with 1 out of 6 images)

i also have an overworld sheet that has most if not all the original overworld textures. ill send you a link because its too big to upload

http://img57.imageshack.us/img57/2831/TheBestTools.png

the sprites can be returned to grey scale. the skin color of all of them are 100% accurate.

however i believe if you saw the actual sprites from the game you'd understand why i did a revamping in the color scheme for some of them

also. you've got a big bill to fit. mostly because of the sounds.

i can get you all the sprites easy for the pokemon. if you can do animation i can help you piece it together

the sounds are a little bit complicated. since we're working with a GBC game, there is not much on the internet we can do sound wise. (it was hard enough to find something that could accurately show sprites from the game)

however, there are tools. not many but some

in the most probable case i'll be able to extract sseq although i haven't found something that can combine all parts of an sseq into one clip, the other solution is ripping from youtube

I was under the impression you were doing an exact sprite pack for these.
To my eye, you made the sprites a lot larger, and recolored them.
But, the sounds would be essentially the last thing I would do.
I'm still working on CT, and this would just be something cool to add to it.
Also, do you have a proper grid for the p3d sprites? Because yours are a lot larger.

i use PAINT.net which is really useful
what i do. is essentially add a layer on top of the original picture and redraw the sprites. the pencil size is permanently at 1 bit so for every bit in the sprite its 4 bits from the pencil.

i copied what the dev team did with GoldRetro.

essentially, if my sprites are the same size as their gold retro. i believe my sprites are accurate.

here's the GoldRetro that is built in with the game.

i just followed after the Dev Team's example of the sprite size

if it wasnt for gold retro as a reference. the size would most likely be smaller.

also for the longest time all i had was grey scale for the NPC's but i found that bulbapedia does have colored sprites which help alot.

then i saw what the colored sprites looked like....

ill show you how they compare to mine

here's my version:

here's the classic version:

which do you prefer?

also here's the link to the image straight from bulbapedia that shows that the classic version is legit:

@PrinceVade

here's a screenshot of the GoldRetro skin next to an NPC

gold.png

the size difference isnt that big and you're not a giant in the overworld either. now make all the NPC's the Retro Version and it really won't seem off.
