Gen 2 :p becouse it's simply the game i played most as a kid...
and still is the best game in my oppinion, based on the story, and the lenght of the game.
alltho the elite four was too easy.
i've played gen 1- first of the gen 4 games, so... i havn't tried the remakes...

i'm really stuck between gen 2 and gen 3.

gen 2 is amazing because not only did it add new pokemon and new features to the original 150, it also incorporated the gen 1 map back into itself, this enhanced the game play in a way that no other gen had before. you could go back to kanto.

however gen 3 had a great storyline and brought up a great new world to explore that went away from johto and kanto. also I LIEK MUDKIPZ

Johto > any other region!
Johto map > any other map!
Johto story > any other story!
Johto Gym Leaders > everything!

Overall rating:
Johto = awesome.

Some very difficult formula's and calculations were put into this sonof course this is the truth :D

2nd is my favorite as well. Gen 1 seemed to feel hollow in spots, and your players purpose didn't seem well defined (although I was 6 when I played it). I played 2nd gen when I was old enough to finally remember things and form reasonable opinions. I thought the day/night cycle was genius, I liked the events that happened on certain days of the week, I liked apricorns; I liked the radio and phone features of the PokeGear... The whole game felt really alive. The music is the best chiptune I've ever heard too. Gen 3 is a close second though. I loved the Hoenn region and the orchestral soundtrack was epic.
Gen 4 is my least favorite (save HG/SS, they're OK). I didn't think the music was as strong as the previous two, and the game just felt like it moved slowly. I think the character himself moved slower. Battles took for ever because of the empty spaces between attacks and things like that. The game felt generic to me and it felt like a chore to get through. I was so glad when I finally beat it.
I have not played any gen 5 yet, but am looking forward to it. I hear it's good.

I may have said it before, but my fav gen is either gen 2 since it added the most to the pokemon genre or gen 5 (black & white 2) since there are so much to do in those games compared to the other ones.

The least liked of those are gen 3 because of various different reasons, I did not like the graphics overall, Very few pokemon that I actually like that was added, WAY too much usage of water routes in that game, lack of things that were added in previous gen, such as day/night cykle & Rival rematch, the introdution of the "friendly" rival. The Elite four is horribly easy, and probably the worst thing of all NO end-game content at all other than the battle tower.

If it wasn't for HG/SS I would probably still not play pokemon after the failure called generation 3 where I quit playing.
I have to admit though that even gen 3 had it's bright sides such as double battle & the music wasn't too shabby.
It's lucky pokemon became better after every gen since then.

If they actually re-make Hoenn, I really hope they fix most of those things so my view on Hoenn is altered for the better.

I understand where you come from there, but Hoenn is based off the place in Japan, it is actually a group of islands. So naturally there would be lots of water routes.

In terms of bad guy story Emerald is my overall favorite
In terms of pre-e4 maps Emerald is my favorite
I just wish that the post game content was atleast comprable to that of FRLG or even d/p/pt
having as much as in hgss or gen 5 would have been amazing :)
