I do name them because that's the coolest thing about being a trainer.
I took this from Gold (the greatest trainer ever)
For every single Pokemon game I play I add something at the end of my Pokes names for all of them.
Gold's team: Ataro, Poltaro, Explotaro, Sintaro, Utaro, Togetaro, and Mantaro
The closest I've come to getting a nickname as cool as Gold's pokemon is my HG Aipom named Atale

I had a gardevoir on my Pokemon Sapphire, she was the best partner I had ever had. Her name was Spirit. By the time I had reached the Elite Four, she was already Lvl. 83. I lost her when my battery died on the cartridge and the save was lost for good. I miss her. );

I'm terrible at naming characters etc in games so I used to just use it to properly capitalize the names (Charizard instead of CHARIZARD etc). When blizzard turned wow minipets into pokemon you level, battle, catch and can rename I renamed them all so I can have the pet follow me around with a Funny Name
I did that too.When i got "CHARMANDER" i named it "Charizard" so it could have proper name when it evolves
That looks way better, imma start doing that too :)

I always liked that you can nickname your pokemon but i always preferred not to give them one cause I suck at nicknames plus I like them having their normal names. Most annoying thing about nicknames I found was that when you used to trade with npc you could never change the pokemons name back to normal so you would be stuck with a pokemon like rocky. :meh:

I prefer to not nickname my pokemon. I don't know why, but I think they have more trading value if you don't.

I like to nickname my pokemon because it gives them the unique quality that non-nicknamed pokemon don't have.

Minus the trading value part. I just don't nickname them. Sometime I get a team that I like and name them after anime characters or their jap names, but that is about it.
