Nicknames

Do you guys have a habit of nicknaming your Pokemon?
When I was young I really didn't, as I got older I started to do it a bit more though. Now every Pokemon, whether being used on my team or not has a nickname. Usually it's just some nickname that suits them, or something that pops into my head that fits them well.

Only when I'm doing the nuzlocke challenge really. And I call my Bagon Bacon, because well, that's just too easy...

It really depends on the Pokemon.

I remember getting a Porygon-Z in a trade over the GTS and it's name was DrugAddict... but it was the funniest thing ever and it really suited it!

I never give my Pokemon nicknames. I just don't like it.
In the Anime when Ritchie had a Pikachu and said Sparky all the time it annoyed the hell out of me! I have been but of nicknames ever since.
I did get a Scizor called "D**kHead" over the GTS. I have since released it.

*shudders* I have gotten all kinds of bad names over the GTS and I'm glad there is a better filter now.

The only pokemons I have name was my blue gengar and that was Aoi obaka was the name I gave her. I was going to name the other ghost type I have that I have consider Aoi sister but I didnt get a chance to befor my ds was stolen.

Me neither. I was told in my childhood that it will make the pokemons weaker.

I'm terrible at naming characters etc in games so I used to just use it to properly capitalize the names (Charizard instead of CHARIZARD etc). When blizzard turned wow minipets into pokemon you level, battle, catch and can rename I renamed them all so I can have the pet follow me around with a Funny Name

You do that too? Thank goodness. I thought I was the only one who did it and I loved it that the new generations did it automatically!

Oh I nearly forgot my favourite pokemon story, I left my gameboy lying around and my dad found it. My dad was no stranger to games, but he hadn't played pokemon before then, and yet somehow he found the name changer in goldenrod, and renamed my whole party to 'BUTTMUNCH'. It was a bit of a surprise when I played it next and opened up the party menu, lol.

By the way, nicknaming seems to actually exist in the game right now, there simply isn't a system to allow the player to input the nickname, however, you can do it yourself with a text editor.

Save your game and close pokemon 3d if you're playing it, then find where pokemon3d is installed, it will be the 'pokemon' folder in whatever folder the launcher is in.
In there you will find a folder called save, containing a folder for each character you've saved. In the folder for your character there is a file called party.dat, it is just a text file. This is my party.dat

Each of these lines is a pokemon. I have bolded the relevant tag, to give a pokemon a nickname you just put the name in there, like this

You can make your pokemon a shiny like I have, give it different moves (I don't have a list of available moves and haven't tried changing it so I can't tell you exactly how), change its level and stats, apart from nicknaming that is pretty much cheating though. You could give yourself pokemon by changing these files too.
