It's not like your forced to choose one of the new pokemon. You could still pick the same old ones like squirtle, charamander, etc. This would just be for people who want a more different experience at the start of the game. Nobody is forcing anything on anyone. So there's no need to be upset and try to force things to stay the same so others can't get their enjoyment out of the game.
ease up turbo, no ones upset, we're just talking about a suggestion
theres 3 kinds of suggestions, dumb suggestions (another game i worked on got constant requests for grenades when there weren't even 'grenades' invented in the time period it was set in) cool suggestions and good suggestions. i think this falls into 'cool', let me elaborate:
any suggestion that isnt dumb is cool, these are ideas that sound really awesome in theory. almost anyone can come up with these. what separates the cool from the good is if it can fit into current plans, then it needs to be useful enough to justify the time.
a good suggestion is probably easy to do, or something that makes a minor but needed change to something we have planned (like, where would a future friends list go? how do we handle custom player characters? what do we do with pal park?). big good suggestions often don't interfere with any existing or planned system and don't overlap. An example of this was the discussion on adding trainer levels with perks, with many of the ideas from it probably being workable.
this is a cool suggestion because it shakes up the start of the game and this might be interesting for a bunch of people, but i just don't see a reason to code up such a thing ourselves. what i would rather do is make it as easy as possible for people to create their own p3d mods so these sort of ideas can be explored by the community, and kept out of our designs. this whole idea is probably possible now with modding and enough work. if your mod installer let your user set up their character name and sprite, import another characters pokedex and let them select 3 pokemon which then get their ID numbers put into the scripts for the starter choosing map you could probably have this idea working now within the current system. this requires a fancy installer be done up but if someone with the know-how to do it wanted to make it happen they could without nilllzz doing anything. and thats without actual mod support as such
