its a moot point really because like mules they are an unviable mutation. bananas only exist because of humans, lol. every banana is a clone

bananas are a rare mutation created when 2 kinds of plantain reproduce. often they aren't very good, sometimes good ones pop up. when they find them they make a cutting and grow a new plant with the cutting. eventually you have so many cuttings that you can bring that same plant anywhere.
because banana's can't reproduce they can't adapt, eventually something adapts to destroy that particular plant, destroying it as a food source. the current banana cultivar is 'cavendish', which replaced Big Mike bananas when a disease wiped Big Mike out
