It would be awesome if you could play 4 players online, since I have 3 other friends playing and we really want to play all 4 together :)

afaik=as far as I know :p

Anyway, does anyone know with how many ppl can you do co-op atm actually? I already played with a friend, but was wondering if it's already possible if another friend joins in?

i heard 2 is the current limit but i'm pretty sure we're planning on 4. can't do pvp double battles without 4

the game has nothing to do in multiplayer yet, when that gets worked on more we'll have more concrete details on what is going to be possible in coop and what will not be

Needs to be set by the server but otherwise unlimited like in Minecraft so an entire clan can play together. Obviously PvP would be limited to 3v3 but otherwise allow everyone to play together.

there's only so much you can do together in a pokemon game. any more than 4 and its like, how are they going to play TOGETHER? i reckon we can cram 4 players into a quadruple-battle against npcs and wild pokemon. any more than that and its getting a big hectic

4 is also enough to get 2v2 double battles going :)

You don't all have to be all working and battling together to be on the same server. Just to all be in the same world at the same time would make the game so much better because if it had dedicated server software it could become a game an entire clan could play together. Sure, having more than 3v3 doesn't make sense, but you don't have to have everyone battling together to be on the same server and able to see each other running around doing Pokemon things. Just allowing everyone to see each other and declare battles with each other at a whim is enough, at least initially.

why write a whole dedicated server program when i can write a master server program to act as a backend for services? 4 player limit per game is no barrier to letting people battle

i dont know why this suggestion always comes up, LAN connectivity is literally the only flawless part of the p3d multiplayer experience right now
How so?
the game has no way to perform NAT traversal for online games so it requires port forwards or 3rd party direct tunnelling/vpn software like hamachi. over LAN the game connects perfectly. right now connecting to a game with 1 other player and walking around with them and chatting is all that is in, too. LAN is the easiest way to play this right now, it has supported LAN from the start

you can even connect a server on localhost lol
