A Chat Filter. Because seriously.

Okay, so I love how this community is very diverse with all of its own little friend groups whilst at the same time being tight-knit enough that pretty much everyone knows everyone.

But.

Sometimes it's a bit of a pain to hear EVERYONE, all of the time, especially when multiple people are having different conversations at the same time. Sometimes, I just want to talk to my friends, or a particular group of people. Sometimes I don't even want to talk to people, I just want to be able to see when something happens on the server.
I'd like to be able to hide certain messages. How about letting me disable chat messages from people in another route/city? How about letting me only receive private messages? Maybe I only want to see server messages (and unless you do something about people using the server console to chat for God knows what reason, the ability to hide server chat messages without completely hiding server notifications such as evolutions, etc). In the same sorta area, allow me to only see messages from certain people, or everyone except certain people (a block list, in other words).

Maybe instead of a filter, we could have predefined channels that would suit a similar purpose that I can switch through. A "Global" for the chat as is right now, "Local", for those only near me, "Trade" for those looking to trade, "Friends" for any conversations with just my friends, "Private" for those sending messages specifically to me.

You mean like what Arma 2 did? A direct/global/group chat? Id agree with that.

The maximum number of players recorded on the official server was close to 25 players, that happens rarely.
The average number of players on the server is somewhat between 8-12 players, chat channels for that number of players?

We kinda have what you ask for but in a different manner, friend's chat appears in green, while PM's appear in pink, you can ignore the white and treat it as friend/private chat.
as for a trade channel, I don't see that happening cause everybody will still use the main chat for trade, they can already use PM to trade but they still won't use it, so no point in making that anyways.
As for local channel, (I think) there is no way for the game to detect if other players are close to you or not.

Whilst the game in its current state wouldn't benefit as much from an advanced filter system, I'm sure that we all strive to get the game to be big enough that it would be necessary, so it's a good idea to at least brainstorm it BEFORE we need it as opposed to after.
Even if we don't have such an advanced system, an ignore list would be an appreciated feature.

That's near impossible to do. I know the chat does spam up with many other messages though so I can understand.

Maybe in the future there will be a PM chatroom.
