This is an idea of what could make the game even more awesome to play.
I can imagine a Pokémon World where you can ride your Charizard and fly on his back or even mount on your Arcanine besides only use your bike and stuff.
And it can be correlated with the leveling trainer ideia maybe.
I made a list of potencials pokemons that you can ride. I hope you guys like the ideia, because it would make the playing experience even better.
The (*) ones are the pokemons that I think are perfect for that. The rest of them maybe is too much, but it`s up to all players.

Mount:
- Meganium
- Arbok
- Onix
- Steelix
- Ninetales (*)
- Arcanine (*)
- Stantler (*)
- Persian
- Girafarig
- Taurus (*)
- Donphan
- Dodrio
- Rapidash (*)
- Rhyhorn
- Houndoom (*)
- Venusaur
- Raikou (*)
- Entei (*)
- Suicune (*)

Fly: (It's an Option at the pokemon`s Menu. It`s not the Hm-Fly skill)
- Pidgeot (*)
- Fearow (*)
- Noctowl
- Golbat
- Crobat
- Scyther
- Scizor
- Xatu
- Gligar
- Skarmory (*)
- Aerodactyl (*)
- Charizard (*)
- Articuno (*)
- Zapdos (*)
- Moltres (*)
- Dragonite (*)
- Lugia (*)
- Ho-oh (*)

In the future, maybe, some pokemons can be faster than others and stuff like that.

That`s my ideia. Feel free to ask or opine. Like if you think about any pokemon that you think should not be in the list or some that should be and is not there.
Sorry about any english mistake.

P.S.: Pokémon ended aat G/S/C version for me. After that i think they went so far and pokemons became a lot stranger....
thats why are only pokemons of theses versions.

I would like this--it would enhance the 3D aspect of the game and also bring back the old "Pikachu follows you" thing in a more awesome way. Obviously it would be a big departure from original gameplay, but it seems like it would bring aspects of the manga/anime canon regarding the Pokemon are used in the "real" world into the game world.

I elaborated on this further on the other forum, but allowing you to mount flying pokemon would have a big effect on the map design. It's a cool mechanic that other games have used but it would require a pretty big rethink about map design. On one hand it can be leveraged for cool vertical environments, on the other it hands players a ton of power, having an advantage over the map designer, the player can skip parts of the environment they don't want.

But that is just unrestricted flying mounts, I feel your idea can easily feed into exploration if used appropriately. There are plenty of little trees to cut and open up new paths (and this is game changing), or paths along water that you need surf to access, but why not high up secrets that you can only access if you have a pokemon with fly? Or places where you can use a pokemon with dig to get through to a room of goodies. All the HMs could unlock areas. This would be a good way to add more content on top of what comes with johto and kanto

I understand your point and maybe I can fix something about the ideia. If trainer just get able to fly after they had to use cut and surf at least one time I don`t see why not, because everytime you need those Hm`s again you can just put one Pokemon with those Hm`s in your party, use it, reach another Pokemon Center and turns back to your original party, so it`s don`t really chance the history of the game.
About people who can use it to fly above some route so he would not battle against trainers, I can`t see why to do this... In my opinion people should get happy for seeing trainers, so they can level up their pokemons.
Of course it would need some changes on the map design, but maybe it could be implemented without a lot of problems.
Just for finish, I thing your ideia is really smart, the one about every Hm have a big function in the game.

P.S.: Some people told me about flying to skip some caves, i think it is kinda easy to fix it, just put some item inside the cave that people need to keep going through the game. Don`t forget it can be make possible to fly only close to the end of the game, so not a lot of changes would be necessary.

You'd think people in WoW would be happy about quest mobs too, but the most efficient way to do quests is to skip the ones you don't need and get to the ones you need.

This isn't exactly 'mounts' but I feel it applies here, guild wars 1 is more like pokemon than wow in that you gain access to new areas so you can acquire new abilities (there were 1000s and some were gained by capturing them off bosses) and do more of the content, and for the most part you just did it normally (not much scope for abusing movement, you couldn't even jump), but there existed 'runner' builds that were intended to let you use assassin abilities to skip enemies, and usually dervish abilities that increased your speed. In one of the campaigns you could skip a normally impassable desert (it has clouds of poison gas blocking the way) by abusing certain abilities. You could bypass about a quarter of the campaign if you wanted to get to a certain area (there were legit reasons to that aren't important to the story), then go back and do it normally when you were done with the run.

Basically, what I'm saying is when you make player movement more powerful there can be unforseen consequences, some trivial, some that could potentially change the game forever.

I see no reason why there couldnt be specific areas where it was allowed, they'd probably need to be like bonus new maps for it to be worth doing at all though.

I'd love to see pokemon follow you like some of the games had. The option to use a different ground 'mount' (for lack of a better word, transport? speed boost?) than the bike wouldn't be that big a deal either, could be cool if added

Well, if you are saying so... I still like the ideia, but it would be cool even if only some special areas get added.
About ground mount, I really don`t see why not, it is just some "sprite" change, besides bike, pokemons. =)
And I think everybody would like to feel like those trainers of the anime.

there'd be a little more work than that to make it look right. the bike isn't even in so there probably isn't a system for getting on a bike in the first place, would be a good thing to keep in mind when he's making that work. WoW mounts are fairly simple, the player model goes into a riding animation, their model is then attached to the mount model at a pre-set point (so the 'saddle' or whatever you're sitting in can be in different positions depending on the model used for the mount) and the mount model does the animations for the player instead. You could think about it as a model swap to a mount with your actual character model attached. Similarly, the bike could be a different sprite to the player, instead of being a whole new sprite of the player on the bike, and the player sprites would have a riding animation. This would allow for not only other things to ride, but also makes allowing custom player character sprites much easier. Having said that, you could just as easily force the sprite maker to include 'riding on a bike' etc animations

A little thought on controlling flying--Fly could let you hover one space above the map (so you could bypass small objects like trees you would otherwise Cut through or small ledges but not larger slopes/trees), and at that point updrafts/air currents that you couldn't deviate from (like waterfalls?) would become visible, and you could ride those to special areas. Since presumably Fly doesn't become available until later in the game, this wouldn't seriously alter anything in terms of navigating areas.

Another 2 problems I can see is convenience, the bike is always ready to go, but if you wanted to do a party without flying pokemon getting around would feel more like a chore. I'd likely keep a flying pokemon in my party for it.

The other is repel items, there's some overlap with the ability to fly. The repel items let you move through grass with no encounters, which speeds up travel. What use are they when you get the ability to fly over everything? Surf would still have a place in catching water pokemon but if you could fly that would be way easier, why surf? Why cut down all the shrubs blocking paths when you can fly over them? Flying around on your charizard sounds cool, because it really is, but in gameplay terms its a very big decision to hand that kind of power to the players.

I feel as though flying as it presently exists already has these problems--you basically teleport from city to city and bypass everything you don't want to go through.

you got a good point... that`s why i said before if you choose the right timing to give this ability to players, maybe it will not change the game that much

There is a key difference though, flying only works if you have visited the city before, and if you are skipping the routes in between its all or nothing, if you wanted to get to a place half way through the route between 2 cities flying to the next city will get you no closer. Fly is not so much a movement ability but a quick travel system.

It's an abstraction of map quick travel you'll find in many other games (guild wars, the game i mentioned earlier that had weird runner builds to skip areas also let you quick travel to any town you visited. You had to walk through monsters to get to anywhere inside the other zones). My convenience problem is also non existent for the current implementation of fly, you can always just get your pokemon with fly out, fly where you want to go and put it back in storage when you get there.

is it possible to do like in WoW?? Just put some areas you can not fly, but give the permission if the person have already passed by there walking
