I opened the launcher and downloaded the latest version. Although the button was clickable, when I clicked it, the launcher closed, but the game never opened. Help?

I assume you tried that multiple timesI opened the launcher and downloaded the latest version. Although the button was clickable, when I clicked it, the launcher closed, but the game never opened. Help?

Is there a crash log? Or even a log file in the pokemon folder?
Maybe that info inside will tell us better what problem you had.

What do you mean?
As in, does the game give you a crash report when it start, (go check your pokemon folder and find a file that is named something like this : 2014-05-18_11.58.31_crash.dat,
also, do you have an anti-virus installed? maybe try to turn it off?
and one last thing, if you haven't installed the latest launcher download it from here : http://pokemon3d.net/downloads/ it was updated a couple of days ago.
