How do I set up a server

I want to start up a server that would be open 90% of the time. Or even have a server running 24/7 During summer break.

I just need to know the basics. Ive already downloaded the server software. Now what?

You need to port forward first:

Just in case you have more than 1 router that is running at the same time, you are required to portfoward all of them in a different way which might not be covered in faq.
