Surf doesn't work

Hello, I just beat the Kimono girls and got surf from the old man. I teached surf to my poliwag and walked to the water to try, but i couldn't surf. First I just talked to the water, after that I went to the menu and clicked on poliwag with the intention to select surf from there. But I even didn't see surf there, while Poliwag knows the attack now.

I'm almost in Olivine City now and when I can't surf, I can't complete the storyline as you now of course.

Can you check and see if the actual Hidden Machine Surf (HM03) is in your Bag? Some players have reported not getting the item, that might be the case with you too.

Thanks for you're helpbut I think I know my mistake. Four badges are required to use surf outside of battles and I have 3... I thought I was an experienced player xD
