Chapter 1: The Spirit Has Awoken
I awoke. My eyes were failing to open. I had a peculiar sensation in my feet: I hoped it was my imagination. All of a sudden, a sharp needle pierced through my skin, sucking my blood into a slender tube. Why? Endless questions sped through my mind, leaving me in a state of disbelief. My eyes flew open. Three humans were staring at me, intimidating me even further.
“Hello, my name is Charles,” one of the people claimed.
He seemed to be kind, although I couldn’t quite tell yet. I looked around, raising myself with my elbows. The room was made of midnight-black, oak wood. Vibrant white tiles covered the floor, as well as the ceiling.
Oh yes. Before I forget, my name is Purrloin. All my life, I have narrowly survived by scavenging diminutive fish in lakes or ponds. This gets sickening after a while but the lakes are always full of fish.
Before I get distracted, I must continue with my tale.
One of the humans, a young, red-haired woman, lifted me and gave me a look of joy and delight.
As I was being carried across the room, I noticed an immense black-leather bag in the distance. I ignored it. Being so young at this point, I cannot remember what happened for the next week.
Chapter 2: Friend or Foe?
Days past before I left the building; I had recently become old enough to leave the Day Care. Once I had said my farewells to Madam Noctowl, I gathered my few belongings (a notepad and a tiny pearl) and swung the gate wide open.
“Wait! Where are you going to go?” a voice yelled.
I was unaware of who was calling me. After only walking a few steps, the voice called after me once again.
“Please halt! You in the woollen cardigan?”
Now I was certain that it was me the voice was asking for. Turning around, I saw a youthful person there. She was rather tall and had short, leaf-green hair. She approached me.
“Hello, my name is Kirlia. I am incredibly shy so I am really pushing myself by talking to you. Yet it seems rather nice to talk to another girl for once.”
Kirlia hid a faint smile.
“Oh, hello. I thought I was the only girl here.” I swiftly responded, trying to be polite.
Kirlia took a deep breath before she spoke again.
“For a while so did I but yesterday I saw you preparing to leave. Can I come with you? I understand that we only just met but I really want to leave here; I am being bullied by Gurdurr…”
Purrloin pondered over this for a few seconds before she reached a conclusion. She answered with one word:
“Sure.”
