This thread is for giving tips on how to help pokemans evolve through friendship. Some people refer to friendship as happiness, so dont get confused if you see people talking about happiness.
When some pokemans reach a friendship value of 220, they will evolve upon the next level up. There are many ways to raise friendship. As a pokeman's friendship goes up, they will get lower friendship boosts from every activity. Here is a list:
Walk 256 steps in one play session
Hair cuts (from the hair cut bros in goldenrod underground)
Leveling up
Using EV lowering berries and vitamins (purchasable from a man outside the safari zone)
It is also possible to lower a pokeman's friendship if you are a terrible person. You can do this by letting your pokeman faint or feeding it bitter food (all bitter food says its bitter in it description).
Here is a list of pokemans that evolve through friendship: (only includes pokemans currently obtainable in game)
Golbat -> Crobat
Chansey -> Blissey
Eevee -> umbreon (night) or espeon (morning, day, and evening)
Pichu -> Pikachu
Cleffa -> Clefairy
Igglybuff -> Jigglypuff
Togepi -> Togetic
Azurill -> Marill
Munchlax -> Snorlax
Riolu -> Lucario (day)
You can tell if a pokeman is ready to evolve by talking to it. If it says "<Pokeman> suddenly gave you a hug", you are almost there! (you might need to talk to it multiple times for this quote to appear)
Now for tactics on how to raise friendship efficiently
1. Grind the elite 4 for a ton of money. Buy all of the vitamins and feed them to your pokeman
2. If you are trying to friendship evolve a ton of pokemans, you are probably after pokedex completion. Put all the pokemans you want to friendship evolve into your party and then go pace around the safari zone to boost friendship and get all those 1% encounter pokemans
3. Take the pokeman to a higher level area and boost its level.
4. Berry vista exists for a reason. Just buy one of each EV lowering berry and start farming them using a berry farming guide. Eventually you will have crops with dozens of each berry, or a lot of one berry if you roll that way.
