I wouldn't go so far as to call those the top 4 in the metagame right now, especially since the standard xy metagame doesn't have access to Genesext or Heatran right now, and only one of those checks can handle the ever present earthquake and even then can't dish out the kind of damage to counter its users.Actualy B/W 2 Mototype Season showed that:
In Mono only fight hardest/strongest rank:
1 Poison (not need to sey why, no weakness)
2 Ice (Cloyster/Foreslass swipe fire/fighing monotypes and overal other have bad time with them)
3 Dragon / Steel (duo to speed, dmg and Sturdy with great power)
In Monotype vs callers (most win raito, note that ICe have 1100 points when Dragon had 1000, so it like 2/3 more loses)
1 Ice
2 Poison
3 Steel
4 Dragon
Overal
Poison/Ice/Steel/Dragon are stronges Types, and truly outstand other types.
But X/Y give some pokemons/ability to it and it can chang

Its simulator of fight, you can set up team, moves/abilites/EV's/IV's natures items and check them in fight.
Right now in XY, the 3 dominant monotypes (usage stat wise) are Steel, Fairy, and Bug
Steel types have access to Aegislash, Genesect, Mega Lucario, and Scizor; the 4 most threatening Pokemon in the OU metagame. They can also check their weaknesses with Heatran, Aegislash, and Skarmory.
Fairy is the anti-meta type. Able to counter the 3 biggest offensive types from last gen (Dragon, Fight, and Dark) and only weak to the 2 types that are better used defensively (ironically). They also have top threats such as Azumarill and Mega Mawile. Unfortunately, they have serious trouble against physical sweepers.
Bug has Mega Pinsir, Scizor, Volcarona, and Mega Herracross who can all very easily sweep. They also have great utility in Galvantula and Sticky Web which disrupts Hyper Offensive teams.
You got the wrong Victini. I don't do competitive battling. This is like reading Chinese for me (I don't read it).Too many words... can't ... reach.... tornado.... you read....

As for faries they are highly restricted by variety and the near universal weakness to poison; sure you have mega mawile but unless you open with it you will usually be wanting to switch into an attack with it which becomes difficult when you realise mawile can't take hits for shit, which become a problem if by the time you mega evolve and get a hit in you're already down to 30% hp, physical prowess none-withstanding.
Bugs usage stats are skewered by how enamoured people are with the use of sticky web and the new megas, for the most part mega heracross isn't really all that great and only functions highly in niche situations, mega scizor is ok but the extra bulk sort of moves away from his playstyle, mega pinsir is the best option out of the 3 for most situations but like the others suffers from the always present fire weakness that just about nothing outside volcarona can check.

These stats are from the Pokemon Showdown! simulator and Smogon. The Monotype tier is PokeBank style which does have access to Genesect, Heatran, and all the other post-PokeBank goodies. I've seen a lot of mono-steel types handle the ever-present EQ with either Skarmory, Bonzong, or just slapping Air Balloon on everything xD
As for Fairies, the main advantage to being weak to Poison is that Poison itself is a terrible and rare offensive type. Nobody ever uses a Poison type move for coverage (even Dragons prefer to just go with their secondary STABs or a Steel type move to deal with Fairies) and the few Poison types you do see such as Nidoking and Scoliopeed can be played around....but are no doubt still a threat. Fairies still have to deal with Steel types though. Most Steel types are physically based and most Fairies have terrible physical defenses.
As for Bug, the only way I can understand how its the third most dominant type in the monotype tier is that Mega Pinsir literally 1-2HKO's everything that doesn't resist a STAB Aerialate Return and those that do (bar Skarmory) are usually OHKO'd by a +2 Earthquake.
These are all based on Smogon's monotype tier and not the actual OU tier itself.

I agree about the potency of steel and the rediculousness that is mega pinsir but I think you're giving poison too little credit, my mega venusaur rocks a really nasty toxic/ venushock combo that either wipes out anything that stays int oo long or at least tags it with toxic.I wouldn't go so far as to call those the top 4 in the metagame right now, especially since the standard xy metagame doesn't have access to Genesext or Heatran right now, and only one of those checks can handle the ever present earthquake and even then can't dish out the kind of damage to counter its users.

That's why I like water so much, it only has 2 weaknesses and one of them can be easily mitigated with the fact that nearly all water types have access to ice moves, which not only take out grass but also annihilate most prominent dragon types due to their secondary flying or ground typings. Ice is just such a brilliant coverage move I love it, but as I type I think it is much better suited for water types or as a coverage move in the form of ice punch/ fang on a myriad of pokemon then it is on actual ice type pokes.Haha I will not deny that Poison is one of the best defensive typings in the game and that there are really good Poison types, especially Mega Venusaur who is S-Class in the OU tier.
As for Dratni's comment, she is right to say that Dragon and Ice were 2 of the 3 best offensive types in Gen5 with the other being Fighting. According to the stats from Gen 5, the best monotypes were Dragon and Water do to their spamming nature.
Ice is the worst defensive typing though.
O dear lord I hope soI'll keep the competitive mumo-jumbo to a minimum XD
AHHHHHH IT'S SOO SHINY!!1Dont ignore Poison
Mega Garhcomp learn Poison Jab(and Stab EQ to 1hko MMawille) , and alone can kill entaire Fairy Team, Poison is just solid in any situation, They cover Weaknes to the max, and they learn many counter moves: Levitate Weezing with Flamethrower first on mind,. Not to mention Nidoking with Icebeam/Earht power/Flamethower and anynoig Batto pass/Quiver dance Venomoth. if Venomoth pass 2x quiver Dance, Nidoking will sweep entaire team. Steel are solid cos of Sturdy, and good resist. They resist many types, and Sturdy in 90% of fight prevents Ko frome fire/fighting and thus they can 1hko fight/fire poks. For Fairy i will w8 until i will see it more.
As for Ice dont ignore it. Many Ice pokemons Have Thick Fat and are immune to Fire(and leave only weaksness to fight/rock/steel and many of them can 1HKO Fire pokemons (mammoswine) not to mention Cloyster, if you let him make Shell Smash its will swipe everythink, even sturdy pokemons. Also there is Foreslass with Taunt, and Destiny Bond she easy trade 1n1 and many time 2v1, also she protect frome Hazards. Not to mention if there is Hail.. Glaceon can 1Hko most pokemons you throw on it, but Evasion on Hail hurts the most.
AND HYPE CALLL
Present you my new, sparkly shiny Glaceon!!View attachment 4047
