this is actually worse than it seems; i was able to play for a couple of hours today on the 2pr0 server just fine today with a bunch of people till it completely lost it and wasnt even showing up as being online in the server list, while other people still were playing on it i want to point out; i know this because i (for the sake of god) was able to keep in contact on skype with them anyway. At this very moment, TheFlipSide's P3D Server and Warp's Pokemon Server are the only two up. I'm also just going to include a server_list.dat with the active and partially active servers since it lags the client a lot when the full list is loaded.
I try to monitor my server (2pr0) 24/7 on top of working 40+ hours a week. The Pokemon3D server client eats 100% of my server CPU every couple of hours which causes client-side delays. It has gotten to the point where my welcome message simply states to message me on the forums if the server is having issues. I have to ask the (sometimes 14+) players to save after their battles so I can restart. At this very moment, TheFlipSide's P3D Server and Warp's Pokemon Server are the only two up. Yeah, what happens is the server will remain "up" while eating 100% cpu, which doesn't allow others to join, may create "ghosts" of users, causes extreme chat lag, etc. Network will remain active on the actual dedicated server even while using 100% cpu. Eventually the Pokemon3D server crashes from running out of resources. The funny thing is that when I try to ping the server ip without validating the server protocol or whatsoever, it seem to alway able to ping it with no problem.
Only the game could not ping it or simply fails to validate the server making it offline.
You'll notice that even the official server was taken offline. The current server program is terrible.this is actually worse than it seems; i was able to play for a couple of hours today on the 2pr0 server just fine today with a bunch of people till it completely lost it and wasnt even showing up as being online in the server list, while other people still were playing on it i want to point out; i know this because i (for the sake of god) was able to keep in contact on skype with them anyway.
you might have seen the ward and my server online but the situation there was equally bad, on the ward server everything was delayed by 5 minutes, if messages even showed up at all; using the chat was impossible. the same on my server and even as being in control of it there is not much i can do; i could just restart it and hope the people come back but in fact i know the situation occurs again after only a few minutes.
i want again to point out how frustrating this is, for example i was on my own server today and not able to use chat and a guy joined and he expressed in chat how happy he was to see people online, just to realize the horrible situation soon after, leaving in frustration. the frustration on my side was even bigger because i even tried to apologize to him but the chat messages never had a chance to show up and a short time later there was nothing i could do but to leave my own server in the same frustration.
to sum it all up this is all so frustrating i cant even point it out enough; a lot of people try to get into the game and i dont even wanna say what it may look like for them to launch the game and see the official server down. for the sake of god, most of them make it to alternative servers and run into players like me who really love the game and hang in there and support them and I answer their starter questions, but after a short time it all messes up and another server goes down.
i love this game so much i donate a lot of money each month but honestly, what is going on here? i dont wanna sound bitter but... i'm out of words...
I'm not sure if I'm more amazed by the leakage or the fact that it's multithreaded.I try to monitor my server (2pr0) 24/7 on top of working 40+ hours a week. I guess you could just have the server autorestart every hour or two. I haven't played in a while, but it still smoothly transitions people to single player when the servers go down, right?Yeah, what happens is the server will remain "up" while eating 100% cpu, which doesn't allow others to join, may create "ghosts" of users, causes extreme chat lag, etc. Network will remain active on the actual dedicated server even while using 100% cpu. I very well could set up a cron to automate the task, I was just under the impression that users would lose unsaved data upon restarting. I'm fairly new to this community so if you say it's safe, I'll set it up today. You'll notice that even the official server was taken offline. The current server program is terrible.

I would definitely test it first. I haven't actually played Pokemon3D for anything other than fixing saves or lost Pokemon/Items in months. I'd test it both with normal play and pvp/trading (this might be a problem).I very well could set up a cron to automate the task, I was just under the impression that users would lose unsaved data upon restarting. I've hardly played it myself lol. But alright, I'll set it up and do some testing later. ThanksI would definitely test it first.
