Fixed 0.38.2 rival naming bug

so i'm ecstatic that the Mr. Pokemon bug has been fixed ^-^ but when i got back to elm's lab and got the chance to name the rival i named him "koala" since my character's name is panda and instead of the cop saying "Ah, so his name is koala" he said this, "Ah, so his name is rival.name" and if i'm correct that does say koala ._. i love this game so much and i never want to stop playing it especially since heart gold was my favorite Pokemon game to this day so please fix~

P.s. I haven't been able to confirm that his name is actually rival.name instead of koala due to the Rattata trainers trapping you in an endless loop of talking after you beat them so yea

Weird, and pretty interesting. Have you tried using "Silver" as a rival name, with a capital S? Can you replicate the bug, naming your rival "koala" again? Remember that F2 is for screenshots, a couple of them (one for the naming process and other for the cop speech) could be useful for the staff.

Happened to me to. I just left it as Silver and it still said rival.name

if you want to fix it you need to goto the script file /scrips/elmlab/door.dat
and /scripts/elmlab/door0.dat
and remove the period between rival and name

Yes it should fix it, no you don't have to restart your game.

That happens since the first Game Boy release of GSC and it's definitely not a bug. Which name would he have if you don't know him yet?

that's normal when you first battle him, it's supposed to do that it did that in the original Pokemon gold, AND in heart gold as well

Well when I encountered this bug I wasn´t sure whether it was one since I named him "rude Asshole" and thought the developer made a joke there to make sure noone names his rial with swore words xD
