When a pokemon faints, it still receives experience points, which I have seen mentioned elsewhere, but what is also odd is that in a battle where the pokemon in the first slot in my team is fainted, and was before the battle began, the experience is not given to the next pokemon in the lineup who is doing the actual battling. Instead, exp is given to the non-participating fainted pokemon in the first slot.
