Online Save / Single Player Save

I'm sorry if I am putting this in the wrong section, but the forum headers are somewhat confusing.

What is the exact difference between the regular game, and the "online" save? I started playing the regular single player, and have put in like 13 hours or so, and then I find out my GameJolt account is logged in, but not linked to my save. Does this mean I can't play online with anyone, or trade pokémon on this save? Because I would hate to start all the way over online just to be able to access those features, but I would rather do it now than find out once I have beat most of the game.

When you start the game at the bottom right corner you have the gamejolt icon. You enter your username and token (token can be seen on the top right corner in the gamejolt website). Then you press "Play online".
When you have an online save you'll be able to use pvp later on, when it is implanted. You'll be able to use the trade system and trade with other trainers. Your save will be safe at the gamejolt server too.

Thank you for the replies; and sorry for being in the wrong section. I plan on using those things later, so I guess I will make a new online game. I am not too far in, and I kinda messed up some of my pokémon's moves anyway, so I don't mind starting over again that much. I think I still just don't really understand the point of the offline play. Is it just for people who don't always have a reliable connection? Because it seems like you're kinda stunting your experience if you don't play online.

It's just that some people don't want to create a GameJolt account for whatever reason. Also, you can play offline if you are not connected to the internet. And some people just don't like the idea of playing an online game.
