I came out of a battle with my Graveller on 2 HP which was listed as fainted.

No, it doesn't know it. I was in a battle with a trainer on route 26, beat him and it was like this. I went into another battle and it was able to be sent out, but was still marked as fainted in the pokemon selection screen.
