As the title says, when I try to pick my first pokemon the game freezes up/won't respond and closes. Is there any fix to this?

At what point does it crash the moment u click on the pokeball and the image appears or when u hit "Yes" after that when u want that specific pokemon?
If u could post a step by step explanation it would help us trace where the possible cause might be.

It crashes right away when I click on one of the pokeballs. It freezes for like a second or two and then the program stops responding and says it has to shut down.

Did u have another version of pokémon3d installed prior to v0.20? Or has this been your first installed version

I installed it yesterday with the installer on indieDB added 1st December. Updated it to 0.19(_1) as standard user, next day I set it to admin user and had to update it again to 0.19(_1) and didn't play until 0.20 was added.

I would suggest u download a fresh copy of the game to remove the possibility of any files that for some reason may have gone missing.

All u need to do is remove the "Pokemon" folder and run Pokémon3D.exe again this should download a fresh copy of v0.20.

Try that and see if it still crashes if u choose one of the starter pokémon.

Do u have by any chance these latest versions installed?
These are requirements in order to run the game there might be a possibility you have some older versions installed.

If u do have these installed could u check inside your Pokemon3D\Pokemon\Scripts folder if these files are present
  • Pokemon3D\Pokemon\Scripts\charmander.dat
  • Pokemon3D\Pokemon\Scripts\squirtle.dat
  • Pokemon3D\Pokemon\Scripts\bulbasaur.dat

The scripts are there, I have installed the latest versions of both. I had to install the two programs to be able to run the game.

Well we can at least rule out the possibilities of incorrect software installed or missing files.

What operating system are u running on have u tried running the game in administrator mode / compatibility mode (Depending on your OS)

I myself have not encountered this problem and have it running on Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) no compatibility mode

I'm running on the same OS as you and no compatibility mode. And I'm running the game in administrator mode.

check what files you have under the scripts folder if you don't have files named for the kanto starters that might be the problem
