and back when i played gen 1 i really liked onix and when gen two came and he could evolve i just liked him even more and it looks really good gold i think

If I remember correctly:
Find Pokemon you want, defeat it, move 4 blocks away from place you found Pokemon, find new Pokemon, shiny? If yes, catch. If not, run. Different Pokemon? Restart chain. (I think)

A shiny tentacool was actually my first ever shiny while playing pokemon crystal when I was younger, so it came back to say hi I guess.
