So it all began in 2007: I had pretty much every Pokémon game except for Pokémon Ruby at that time. Logically, I wanted the game, so I asked for it on my birthday. When my birthday arrived, however, I was pretty disappointed, the cartridge was completely black; I knew it was a fake. So I decided to ask for another on Christmas 2010. The second one looked very similar to the real one, but still had it's odds and ends:
First of all, the cartridges are a completely different color:
Second of all, both of the cartridges, upon loading the game with no save file say: "The save file was deleted...". (I would take a picture, but I already have save files on both games).
The first one (the one with the red cartridge) is supposedly the real one, and should behave like a normal game. However it barely fits into any of my Game Boy Advances, which could mean that the cartridge's dimensions are messed up. Upon loading a save game on this one, it displays this message:
then it will display the main menu, and you can play the game normally.
The second one (the one with the black cartridge) is presumed a counterfeit of the real one. Everything on the Internet tells me that this is a fake, and without a doubt is so. The game almost doesn't fit in the GBA slot as well as the other game, which made me believe them. However, this is a fully functioning Pokémon Ruby Version. It's not fake at all, and is hardly different from the "real" Pokémon Ruby Version. The only main difference between the two is that they have different start up messages. Instead of "The save file is ok.", the black cartridged game says these two messages:
then the game can be played normally from there, save file loading and everything.
Finally around 2 months ago visiting my recent retro video game store I finally found the real copy of Ruby, and dang did it take much longer than expected. The two pirated copies of Ruby I have are now in my archive. Not so sure what to do with them now.
