Really strange ... are the music files in the correct folder ? \Pokemon\Content\Sounds and \Pokemon\Content\Songs ?

in songs are things like: bark town and battle intro etc. but in the sounds folder is only item_found.xnb, pokemon_heal.xnb and a folder with the pokemon cries.

Volume is on? Is that system volume or the game's volume?
Make sure the volume is on on your computer as well as in the game.

Hmm, not sure...

Check volume mixer, I sometimes use that to turn certain applications volume down, which leaves me confused when I next turn my computer on.

Have you tested every song?
Has the music stopped working recently, or have you never been able to hear it?

Press m to turn the music on/off. That may correct the problem. I hit it by mistake and did not realize it and volume adjustment on the computer or in the game did not fix it. I eventually pressed m again when I had the game open and it turned the music back on.

go to \Pokemon\Content\Songs and see if the wmas are there, and play them in a media player or something to see if they play

also check /Pokemon/saves/options.dat for the volume and muted lines. for example this is mine
Volume|100
Muted|0
RenderDistance|4
ShowDebug|0
ShowGUI|1
GraphicStyle|1
