That was a tricky one, indeed...
I suggest saving before talking to him to see the different outcomes of the direction you talk to the bird.
Some say you have to always talk to him from the left. But I went with my first tactic and made it out there pretty easily.

The wiki says that Tangrowth isnt available yet because evolve by knowing move hasnt been implemented yet, but then again the wiki is full of inaccuracies, so i though i would ask, as getting a tangela would be pointless otherwise.

Trading is via the Hubs in Goldenrod. (That is if you are playing online (Gamejolt), there is no offline trading option.)
I don't think there is a battle option yet, something like that will be implemented sooner or later.
The connection multiplayer is a bit messed upsince you can ride, fly or surf nor can you engage in any type of battle without the other person disconnecting and thus rendering multiplayer useless.

Is it possible to view the .xnb files in the Textures folder? I like to know what I'm seeing. If this is possible.

.xnb files are compressed files
you need to extract them to .pngs
