The aim of this topic is to list together all the good Multi-player ideas you guys have in one easy to read spot.

Feel free to express your ideas and if people like it ill add it to the list below.

Allow many people into the same world:
This will allow for people to battle and trade(see below) in a much easier way.
- You could advertise it on this website/irc.
- You could battle and trade with all sorts of people.
- Make new friends/enemies ;)
- Will make it feel much more lively.

Allow players to interact with each other:
You should be able to go up to another player and click. This would bring up an options menu which would let you interact in the following ways:
-Trade - Pokemon/items/money?
-Battle - Will send a request, then you could maybe choose between a practice match and a ranked match or something.
-Examine - Would let you look at their stats such as wins/loses, badges, ranking etc etc.

In game chat:
This could be split into different types:
-Local chat - Would let you chat to the people who are in the same area as you.
-World chat - Would let you talk to everyone in the game.

You mean like an MMO? The problem is it would get overcrowded. Nilllzz has said there will be 4-Player CO-OP. But we don't know what it will include.

I mean more along the lines of something like Minecraft or any other game that lets you host your own game and you can have multiple people join.

I agree something on the scale of an mmo would be way too much, but having say.... maybe up to 8 or something wouldn't hurt. It would be good to be able to interact with more of the community at once.

But minecraft allows you to do your own thing in a near-infinite world. Pokemon3D is in a limited (fairly-linear) world. It's a completely different game. You're better off comparing it to a game like magicka, which also has 4-player coop.

I was only talking about the hosting your own world part of minecraft. Nothing to do with the game play. Think of the end game where you have really strong Pokemon. Surely you would like to be able to jump into a world with others who are around the same level and battle them all? That is what I am trying to get at.

Well the game is going to get its own story with real quests and stuff, also if you look here you will see Nillzz is letting the strongest trainers battle each other (sort of) anyway.

I guess you could do it that way, though there is something about playing against the player themselves which would be better. I can see that working well if you didn't want to join other servers and just wanted to play by yourself.

At the end of the day, I am just throwing around ideas and some of them may not fit/work but I guess that is what the forum is for :p

I have asked for a Online Pokemon league you can see details here. It's basically the same thing but online with 100 people, all batteling it out to be the champion. Happens once a month.
nilllzz hasn't said no to it, but said it will be hard to do. I am remaining hopeful though!

I'll repost my suggestions from the other forum WRT this in 1 post:
- obviously we need pokemon training and battling at very least, I'm sure that is on the way, but what about item and money trading? This would require a big rethink of the pokemon economy, but something I feel would make the coop interesting. If there were always money sources and things to buy you could keep the money players can acquire in check, but also give them a reason to trade and acquire a lot of money (pimp your pokemon? Hats for the trainer? Expensive items that are used for crafting things?) Ballsmiths from the perk system Mr Timoshi suggested on the other forum could trade master balls for good pokemon, other items, money. It may be easier to just leave it to pokemon trading and battling though. But you could make a weird little diablo style economy, it's a big ask but that would be really interesting.

-The other day I wanted to test this with a friend and I realized that if my character was really far into the game I'd need my friend to play through by themselves, or join them on an alt, to be able to battle them. There was a game for the n64 that let you import your gameboy pokemon and battle them against your friends, or against NPCs in leagues, but if you did not own pokemon there were premade ones you could use. They weren't that great, and had crappy move sets sometimes, but it was never a problem getting friends to try it. You couldn't take these pre made pokemon back into the gameboy game, and they would not gain experience on the n64.

What I would like to see is that if I got someone (most likely a grown ass man whose eyes roll out of their head when you say 'pokemon') to download this (then go 'it doesn't run' because they don't have the xna 4 runtimes installed) is that within moments of having the coop game connected (The guy I had test out coop with me once had to download hamachi as well, the whole thing starts to look like effort!) we can battle in some way.

You could use the wii in the player's room to start up pokemon stadium, there you can import your own pokemon or make a party out of a bunch of premades, then you have your battle. Your own pokemon wouldn't gain any XP and sightings in there wouldn't record in the pokedex. You could mix and match your own ones and premades. This mode would immediately showcase the battles and all the pokemon that are available. The premade pokemon would have to have different versions for different brackets (say you have everyone pokemon at level with their moves as they would be at 10, 20, 30 and so on. ones you can't acquire at that level could be locked out (for example, no level 10 charizards or mewtwos)

-Someone suggested a buddy list, and I suggested that it be built into the pokegear phone card. this requires a centralized account system or something so players can chat without being in the same coop game, and have a join game option that connects you to their coop game's host's IP address.

-companies put a lot of effort into NAT traversal these days (making a connection without having the NAT mess it up on the way. By this I mean the external and internal addresses for your computer are usually different and data sent to your router has to be forwarded or it gets lost, this is where port forwards come in) which has spoiled people on port forwards. If you can get NAT traversal working for connecting to players no one will have to mess with router settings. At present you can use hamachi to directly tunnel to the other peers on the network, doing the NAT traversal for you. It would be nice to not need a 3rd party program to simplify connecting. I don't know how you'd go about doing this because I haven't done it myself, but it has been a solved problem for a while now, there should be lots of info on it on the net. :)

Edit: Also, any sort of online pokemon league, trading post, and people looking for more to join coop games can all be done in forum threads. It would be nice to have everything seamlessly done ingame but its not like we can't do it ourselves in lieu of that.
