Need to edit player.dat, know nothing about code

I ran into the walk through stairs glitch at the lower floor of the Burned Tower and now I can't get out. I know I'm supposed to edit the player.dat file, but I don't have the program that can open it. I've been playing this purely for the entertainment value and never expected to run into a time when I wanted or needed to edit the code. I need someone who does know something about code to help me fix this.

all.dat files are simply another form of .txt file
just open it in notepad or notepad ++

Thanks, I managed to open it. So what should I change the line to? I want to get back out to Ecruteak.

change the file path on the third line to ecruteak.dat
you might also need to chnge the numbers on the second line as well

Yeah, I ended up near the Burned Tower and up above some trees. The current numbers are 11, 1.1, 6.

default y value is 0.1 not 1.1
after that continue to adjust the other 2 numbers until you can walk freely again

It took a bit of work, but it's working fine now. I thought I might also have to change the position of the following Pokemon, but it resets when you walk through doors. Thank you so much for your help.
