Perhaps instead of a text box interrupting your walk to recite an incoming call, maybe said text for PokéGear calls can be a sliding text box that pops up on the left of the screen tinted brown (PokéGear themed) and displaying the text as you're walking. I kind of whipped up what it could look like in Paint.
And perhaps the PokéGear image can kind of sit on top of/overlap the top of the text box.
