I.... Am sad.... and happy at the same time....
I am happy that we're going to get a proper online experience and things are going to be cheat-free.
I am sad that I will not be able to continue with my ''offline'' save if I want to have the normal online experience. I will probably just play the offline game for the story and I guess I'll make another save just for the Online experience and all of its features.
Gotta start over again, huh....

*Sigh*
New safe, new chances and a new experience. It better be worth it! >: )

Maybe it's me, I don't get it... if there will be the possibility of playing online/PvP with the "offline/original/maybecheated" save, will people be encouraged to create an online GameJolt save because of the new features? As Draco said
my preference would be to put systems in place to catch the cheating after the fact, and mitigate the damage caused by it, and if possible close the hole that let it happen in the first place.
wouldn't it be fairer to identify the cheated save and "clean it up"? So many people that spent dozens of hours leveling and working (in many cases honestly) on their characters would appreciate!
I'm not sure how long that would actually take to go through all of the saves and just clean them up. You also have to think that not all of those saves are gamejolt saves.

I'm not even sure if it's possible with gamejolt saves, I'm no expert, nor do I have any experience whatsoever with stuff like that.

what about an inheritance for players who played before this update?
i personally know that my save has had a lot of work and care put into it, and to start all over just kills me a little.

a one-time inheritance of our current game as is would seem pretty fair.

We can only offer certain features because of gamejolt, these will the quality of life things mostly, helping you find games fast, starting games with friends fast, etc. But it would not be fair for people who can't play online all the time to deprive them of key features like PVP and trading. Playing offline means you find your own games and do what you want. Even cheat if you want.

that is exactly what i'm saying, just quietly slip in and fix up the damage. maybe someone duped a pokemon 2 dozen times, with proper metrics and logging we would be able to track down where the dupes went, what they traded for, and reverse the actions. we already have a way to remove a pokemon from the GTS. if a expolit was discovered and became known to us we could make a judgement call on whether the damage was enough to bother mopping it up, and break the expolit so it can't be done in the future.

for me ideally no one would get banned unless they were always breaking rules, we don't have a policy for this yet though so i can't tell you if bans would be administered, why they would be, and how harsh they would be. i like temp bans personally. short ones.

we can't police local saves except by making updates come with a list of naughty boys and girls who would load into their character to find their ill gotten gains were removed. it'd be too hard. cloud saves we have complete control over. programs can be made to simplify the process

yeah, i know this sucks :( when we were planning to try to keep local saves but encrypt them to deter casual cheaters it was very reasonable to do a conversion, but focusing our anti-cheat efforts on saves we can access and control means this is an all or nothing kind of deal. either we let people use local saves on gamejolt or we don't. we felt the problems you both highlighted aren't enough to make us miss an opportunity to start again from a more solid foundation.

If I understood correctly:
Offline mode, yes.
Online mode, no.
if I am just playing with my friend online (hamachi) will I be able to edit it?
You will keep the save you have now and that will be considered an ''Offline'' save. On this save you, if I understood correctly, will still be able to edit your Party.dat file and you can play with your friend via Hamachi.

at first, sorry that I bother you with this and thank you for answering :)

so do i have to log out from gamejolt to edit my files, because now i am not able to edit them. i wanted to "update" an ability and to evolve my nidorino into nidoking (because stones arent working, yet) and then dissapeared 3 of my pokeymans

No worries at all. Glad I could help.

At the moment, being logged in or out of Gamejolt really doesn't matter. Gamejolt is only there for the GTS (Trade).

It seems you've been messing with the codes without really knowing what you were doing. It's not hard to fix.

Go into your party.dat file > find a code that looks like (Not the exact same code, just something that looks like it.) this:
{"Store"[63332451891181401972011391550234139493171]}
Every Pokémon has such a code, delete that code. Save the file and LOAD into your save. Your Pokémon should be back.

I figured as much with the local saves, just didn't know about the gamejolt ones. So is it possible to still carry over the gamejolt saves? If not, completely understandable.
