I believe that after each gym you can use a new back ground though

My trainer card in-game says I'm a youngster, but I still look like a bug catcher. Is that what you mean?

How many rank levels are there?

you can level all the way up to level 100
right now if you really want to be everything you can stop at level 66

Yeah, I tried that, still looking like a bug catcher. I also tried exiting and re-opening the game, but no deal.
