Ghastly Lick causes crash?

I was returning back up Sprout Tower when I had a fight with a wild Ghastly. I attempted to catch it, but it failed; then Ghastly used Lick, which paralyzed me. It was eaither between now or the end of my turn when it would crash; once in mid-Pokeball-throw, and once just after I opened the pack.
