first gym leader and potions?

random question i guess.. how many super potions is the first gym leader suppose to have? just beat him after a few tries even with higher level Pokemon because he used 5 of them and i finally killed the his last Pokemon with a crit.

I always thought they only had 4, 2 for each pokemon, but now I am starting to think they have unlimited amount and they are programmed to randomly use then when their pokemons health is below a certain point, so for example if one of their pokemon is at 15 hp, that gym leader has a certain % chance to whip out a super potion, however if a their pokemons HP is above 40 or 50, they will not have any chance to use it at all. Just a thought, I'm not actually sure.

I honestly think Nintendo managed to put a rage detector in their Pokemon games. Right when you're about to finish off a Pokemon, the cartridge detects it and makes the gym leader use a potion/full restore. There's no other way that those gym leaders could use potions at the absolute worst time.

The trainer files all say that they each have 3. But I have experienced first hand that this isnt the case all the time.
Falkner also should not have super potions. Just reg ones.

hmm, each trainer I have battled had more than 3, at least 4 or 5 usually.
Yeah, same here. That is the issue I suppose :/ The files only have 3 allotted. Go take a peek at them if you haven't already. On the last line (should be) It'll say 17,17,17
Which is the Item ID for potion...

I get that, but it always seemed that the game knew exactly when you were thinking you could win. I had multiple moments when my last pokemon was going to barely win a battle only to have a gym leader use a potion. Probably just programming, but it was still the most frustrating thing on the planet.

Yup, I have an unlimited amount of potions to make the battle a little more difficult. ;)
