there is also the lucky egg item that increases the amount of exp that a Pokemon receives by half without affecting the amount that other Pokemon receive
ex:
instead of ten exp the Pokemon gets 15

I dont remember when it was implemented but it was def in gen 4
check serebii or bulbapedia for more info on where it was in the main games

just a comment about 1st in 1st out.

in the original games the amount of exp shared was not equally spread.... lemme get the figuress.... about 60/40.
60% goes to the pokemon that defeated and 40% goes to the pokemon that you swapped out.

of course this is a guy that's never touched the Black and White games. where they changed the mechanics of EXP.

so in relation to Gold and Silver, the experience for two pokemon, both active but one killing is about 60/40.

since this is Pokemon 3D and the distribution is based upon the Willz of Nillz (blessed be his name) acutal coding of EXP, i can't comment on whether this is true or not.

If it is 50/50. then the EXP Share would be useless other than for saving that first turn of battle.

based on fourth gen:
PKMN A has an EXP Share and is in the first slot
wild battle with PKMN B
PKMN A starts
switch to PKMN C
PKMN C beats PKMN B
PKMN A gets 75 exp
PKMN C gets 25 exp

PKMN A has no item and is in first slot
wild battle with PKMN B
PKMN A starts
switch to PKMN C
PKMN C beats PKMN B
PKMN A gets 50 exp
PKMN C gets 50 exp

PKMN A has a lucky egg and is in first slot

wild battle with PKMN B
PKMN A starts
switch to PKMN C
PKMN C beats PKMN B
PKMN A gets 75 exp
PKMN C gets 50 exp

PKMN A has an Exp share and is in first slot

wild battle with PKMN B
PKMN A starts
switch to PKMN C
switch to PKMN D
PKMN C beats PKMN B
PKMN A gets 66.6 exp
PKMN C gets 16.6 exp
PKMN D gets 16.6 exp

PKMN A has a Lucky Egg and is in first slot

wild battle with PKMN B
PKMN A starts
switch to PKMN C
switch to PKMN D
PKMN C beats PKMN B
PKMN A gets 50 exp
PKMN C gets 33.3 exp
PKMN D gets 33.3 exp

In fifth gen after those values were calculated the number would then be multiplied by
opp lvl/your lvl

So I take it, it doesn't matter how much EXP a pokemon gets if they are first in line and holding a EXP item?

Or does a pokemon holding an EXP item need to participate in the battle in order to earn any EXP?

if a pokemon is holding an EXP item. it does not need to participate to reap the benefits

if no EXP item is involved, the pokemon must at least show its face in the battle in order to receive EXP

Ok, but does that/will that apply to pokemon3d? I know the pokemon appearing in battle works and in pokemon3d, it splits the exp evenly.

yes, its not really the game mechanics, it's the item mechanics. exp share work regardless of whether the pokemon was in battle or not.

just gotta wait for the items to be put in
they will more than likely(after a bug fix or 2) work as i described

for traded pokemon all experience coming in is multiplied by 1.7 in the games.

so a traded pokemon with exp share would recieve half of the exp from a battle, then that gets multiplied by 1.7
