There's not that much to document about the game right now that isn't already done by bulbapedia. however, for mapping/scripting guides, manuals and reference docs it would be easier to access the information in a wiki than by searching the forums.

known bug lists and patch notes would fit well there too, as well as common trouble shooting problems.

Only for moderators at the moment. We need to add some stuff before I activate it for members. ;)
these things tend to work better when you have a giant pool of potential people who will care enough to do the edits, butI'll see what I can do about fleshing it out. I'm a bit busy but I'll be sticking instructions for tools everyones using up there for sure. my mapping guides would need a rewrite i'm not prepared to do today

That's true. Should I open it to the public then?

I think so.
We have to make a good startpage + navigation though

Navigation will be added automatically when you create pages.
is it possible to use more common off the shelf wiki software? like mediawiki or docuwiki. Unless the forums wiki has good template tools like mediawiki it'll be more work in the long run to maintain it and make it look good. i don't know how you've set up the site but is it possible to have any old wiki page display under the nav bar so it integrates with the main site?

if thats not possible just have the logo in the top left corner on mediawiki link to "pokemon3d.net" instead of the wiki front page maybe and not worry about the wiki having a different layout to the main site. It can be skinned :)

I've been using docuwiki for my personal reference docs http://docwiki.dracohouston.net/doku.php?id=conditions and its really lightweight and easy to use but its just not as pretty as a skinned up mediawiki http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Main_Page

the great thing about a well set up wiki is complex looking pages are very easy to set up because all the work is done for you. stick a template here and a tag there and hey presto it looks like you were up all night in latex. hastily written pages can be easily revised into correctly formatted wiki articles. the bad thing is you have to set these things up :p at least a lot of the stuff you need comes out of the box, and anyone that can read the help page that wants to help can do that stuff
