How to change my character?

I can reach the save file and theres the player.dat but when I try to open it it says i can't...

Ah I can open the player.dat file with different programs. I tried internet explorer but it doesn't seem to work. which programm should I use to open it?

In the Pokemon folder go to Saves, Your Save File Name, and open player.dat. You'll see a line similar to 'skin|Ethan'. Change 'Ethan' to 'bugcatcher', no capitals.

You can actually change it into any NPC texture. If you check the NPC folder in Textures, You will see them all. Even if you can't open xnb files, all the important ones, and even some generic ones (like bugcatcher) are named, so you can figure out most of them.

I can't open the player.dat file... Is there a special way doing that?

Right click it, choose 'Open with...', and open it with notepad. At least that's how I do it with Windows 7.

for this editing notepad is fine
If you start doing more editing i would recommend getting notepad ++ online
(its free)

there is actually a lot of skins available but a lot of them are not in use yet so if you try using them they just crash i made a list of all the skins available at the moment MINUS: the Pimp but you can easily download it from another forum
