okay im a tiny bit confused, i downloaded this thing called 'Launcher' is that the right thing or is it wrong? if its right, what do i do now?

No, you did not have to redownload the launcher, that is fine.
What's not fine are the actual game files. Open the launcher that you already had to begin with and redownload the game files from there.
