Unable to connect to ANY server.

I've been trying to connect to a server on my laptop but so far no dice... it says "A client with a different network protocol attempted to join or the data sent is invalid." i tried the laptops ID and the ID provided to use for the computer but nothing... Can anyone help? o.o

are you hosting the server? or just connecting to a random community-made server?

Hosting a server. That probably should have been mentioned and i could have sworn i did but yeah trying to host a server with the server client from Game Jolt.
