I just listened through his 2 hour live Q&A, and it seems like the game is coming out way sooner than I first thought. The first Alpha test could be out late this or early next year. It will also first be Diablo-ish graphics with 2d, but he will later add a 3d engine to the game, so that you can play both 2d & 3d, the way you like to play it.

The world will render almost the way that Minecraft does, so he does not have to create the entire world, just code about how the world will render. I'm looking foward to get more info & see some gameplay later on.
