the magnate train is the way to make travel as fast as possible between ares that are too far apart to fly to(each region would be a seperate"fly zone")
maybe using an airline would work instead the airport could be placed:
by the powerplant or by bill's house
by cainwood or by lake of rage
by rustboro or on a new island that you then either ferry or fly from
at pal park
at the existing airport

In the Pokemon movies and certain other places distance seems to be irrelevant plus I'm sure the "Fly Zone" barier could be removed easily enough

the "fly zone barrier keeps the maps tidy
yes it could be removed but i think it should stay
however if all else fails then the cruise liners and regular flying would be fine :/

magnet trains, boats, an airline, just dont literally connect them ingame unless you have something to fill in the rest. focus your efforts or they will go nowhere

if you really want to see all regions, consider that kolben are working on 2 of the regions with some community help, there's a prject to create hoenn, why not just remake unova or sinnoh so they can be unified into a big game

if we don't make the base game that we're trying to build the game in a way that allows people to go through the content creation process we went through and make a pokemon game on our engine using our tools. basically, if we stop short of adding all regions a mod will be able to do it. right now we are focused on the world of the gen 2 games, we'll see what we want to do with the other regions later.

So after doing a little bit of research I found this image:

Although I don't agree with the artist's placement of Unova, I figured the other parts of the map are generally well placed... maybe not geographically, but if a game was actually going to be made that is. I thought that with the cruise ship option between Kanto and the Orange islands, the trainer could actually traverse the Sevii islands in order to get to the Orange Islands, if you linked the islands according to number. Like a sort of snaking pattern for instance.

I see.. Well no hurries.. I really do appreciate this game and the work that goes into these things. As long as it's here I shall be here too as the dedicate fan I now am. Btw you all have done good work so far on Gen 2 Keep it up ^^

yeah i though unova was on a different continent :\

its perfectly reasonable to link kanto with the sevii and orange islands, and that connected directly to johto, but the others you're just not going to get your big World of Warcraft style map where they neatly lie by eachother. ninty have never given it that sort of thought, the regions never had to be contiguous, its the pokemon World. i just dont think unless someone was to invent all kinds of Fanon things to fill in the gaps you can do this with anything but fast travel between regions (except the 4 i mentioned that are clearly adjacent in the Canon)

Thats an Idea but then in theory more water routes might need to be created to accommodate surfing between the Sevii Islands & Orange Islands though the upside I suppose could be less ship & travel work plus more trainer battling opportunities possibly and water type catching *shrugs*

Yeah that's my biggest issue, and ocean routes would get a little tiresome after a while. Hence why I suggested trains/ships in the first place. I'm not totally against fanmade regions and towns, but they'd need to be well made and properly designed.

My other issue with adding the regions from the ranger games is that they've got quite a big cultural divide, between the main series and the ranger games. It'd be quite a big break from the main game norm to properly tribute the ranger game series, and not break canon.

another thing about the system we are trying to create: the plan is if your mods generations match (a 'generation' being a set of data for items and pokemon, which are too important to battles to not have everyone using the same data) you can take your character into coop games of that world. if your mod doesnt use a custom 'generation' it'd be compatible with the base game, so mods could allow you to start in a region, but you can visit others by cooping with people who are playing other 'versions' (thats what a mod will be called in this).

but ideally in the end the base game should probably have you start in johto, go to kanto, then from there you can go to sinnoh, hoenn, unova etc. but someone has to make these regions, lol. i know people are making hoenn, and we're making johto and kanto, so like i said, if the OP wants to do this, make a region no ones making and try and merge it later.

A "big break" would not necessarily be a bad thing nor would "breaking cannon" for the ranger parts. Anyway I'm clearly all for the ships idea. Agreed on well made & properly designed fanmade regions, towns, etc.
