Question about the game

Okay...I havent touched gold and silver for going on id say about 8+ years now...I remember you can go to kanto but werent you also able to get the gym badges there as well?

Yes, you can get the 16 badges in G/S/C/HG/SS. The first eight in Johto, and after beating the Elite Four you will be able to travel to Kanto and battle the gym leaders there as well.

Yes, that's why G/S/C, HG/SS and Pokemon 3D are the best games in the history of pokemon.
