There were some events way back where people could win starters, which they would then breed & trade with others, but more than likely, most of the starters you find on the gts nowadays are no longer legit obtained.

There are rideable pokemon in X & Y aswell, so I don't think the game will be in trouble for that reason alone.

The developers will focus on the battle animations once they have finished their priorities, mostly the story & then some post-game stuff. As for the animated sprites, I don't believe it is possible in the current battle system, and I don't think the developers wants to re-create the battle...

I wouldn't count on P3D getting better graphics, as for new features, the patch that has been in development for quite some time now, should give us some kind of new features/content. They have been saying the wait will be worth it, afterall :)

I still remember the sh*tstorm when the new battle system was released :D Either way, most ppl where afraid of the change, and I believe there were a few bugs that broke it, but after they were fixed, it ended up far better than the first version of the battle system.
