another thing about the system we are trying to create: the plan is if your mods generations match (a 'generation' being a set of data for items and pokemon, which are too important to battles to not have everyone using the same data) you can take your character into coop games of that world. if your mod doesnt use a custom 'generation' it'd be compatible with the base game, so mods could allow you to start in a region, but you can visit others by cooping with people who are playing other 'versions' (thats what a mod will be called in this).

but ideally in the end the base game should probably have you start in johto, go to kanto, then from there you can go to sinnoh, hoenn, unova etc. but someone has to make these regions, lol. i know people are making hoenn, and we're making johto and kanto, so like i said, if the OP wants to do this, make a region no ones making and try and merge it later.
So this would be essentially taking your character on holiday for instance?

Agreed. By merging later are you perhaps hinting that side projects/creation of the other regions could possibly be integrated into Pokemon 3D later ( say post Pokemon league ) thus making the work at that point that much easier for you all as far as expanding the game possibly goes? And If I knew how plus what the heck I was doing & had the time I'd gladly try working on one off the regions not yet started or even do a "fanmade region/town"

So this would be essentially taking your character on holiday for instance?
yeah the idea is you'd just join, be taken to the nearest pokemon center to the host, and you're in. your pokemon data all matches, everything would be fine! you would need to have the mod installed but this is literally all we'd have to do in the system i've designed for nils
set the active mod to the mod running in the game the player is connecting to
save the old position etc from when you connected
load the map of the nearest pokemon center to the host and put the player in there

ta-da, you're now in another world!

after that you just don't save position etc, just stuff like your party and bills pc. when you save and quit to the main menu and reload your character you'd be back in the version you belong in where you were when you connected. if you disconnect it would just take you back to where you were when you connected

i also want to be able to let mods flag themselves and not changing maps, these mods would allow you to save your position if you cooped into it. examples of this would be a mod that just makes wild pokemon and trainer pokemon level 90+. or if we allowed gameplay modding in some form, like allowing challenge mode mods like one that formalizes the nuzlocke challenge with ingame rules you can't choose to ignore. in those cases players of that and players of the base game should expect to be able to actually progress while playing it, if the maps themselves arent different it won't cause any problems

and the whole "generation" thing is very good(especially for my mod) I only have 352 pokemon choosen from all five gens each with different than usual numbers(only magmar keeps its original number(126))

not just hinting, i would love to encourage it.

i cant promise Unification in the base game but like i said i can promise you all the power to do it yourself.

Yes your map does actually look better from a layout standpoint and seems ta fit well. Good job

that map looks more reasonable. johto can have a ship to hoenn, kanto can have one to sinnoh, magnet train between kanto and johto, surf between kanto, sevii isles and orange isles. boat from hoenn to orange isles. make it so if you fly to cinnebar island you are in both kanto and sevii fly zone, like indigo plateau and victory road are between johto and kanto in hg/ss. sevii and orange islands can have a common island that shares fly zones. most of the regions will be acessible through a few Fly hops. the others through boats

I am definitely thinking boats for the seviis(no surfing between them) but surfing for the orange islands could work I edited the map to include fly zones(black) boat routes(blue) and the unova air line(grey) suggestions

Seems relatively reasonable enough I suppose

if we allowed you to script it up you could have weird tidal lanes your pokemon can surf through rapidly with whirlpool, allowing you to explain the distance between playable sections of the region

true but I think that sticking with the original idea for the seviis is good

that fiore place, i dont even know what game its from :\ but if it were really on the other side of a mountain range from johto, you could have the cianwood/safari zone area caves branch off to go there, and you go under ground and emerge in that region

cianwood can be the johto/fiore flight zone overlap
